I hear we authors call this the birth day of our book baby. So, with no further ado… Please welcome my book baby, It’s Not About the Wine: the Loaded Truth Behind Mommy Wine Culture, who’s been cooking in the proverbial oven for about 3x longer than the gestational cycle of a real baby.
Now available at a bookstore or library near you, unless you ordered on Amazon — in which case many of you got early deliveries! Some of you have already started reading and a few of you have even finished the book! Please please please go on Amazon to rate and review the book.
I’m excited to see that my book is the #1 New Release for Addiction Recovery books on Amazon. That’s amazing! People are buying my book. Wait… people are buying my book?!?!?
Can I be completely vulnerable with you now? Having my book out there in the wild scares the crap out of me. My most heartbreaking moments are now on paper for the world to see. My most humbling moments in parenting, addiction, and in life — they are out there and I can never take them back. Old bosses might read it. Ex boyfriends. My kids’ teachers… I cannot click “Delete Post” on any of it. I can’t block people from accessing it. It’s permanent, it’s out of my control, and that part is terrifying.
Today I read this quote: “Shame dies when stories are told in safe places.” - Ann Voskemp. I believe if we can safely share our stories, we live a life uninhibited with the secrets that once held us back. Secrets and recovery are a tough combination; and secrets and addiction are the devil’s henchmen.
It’s the point of no return, which feels scary and weird and a tiny bit icky, but it’s also liberating AF. So instead of curling up into a fetal position and hiding from it, I will celebrate the freedom that comes with a life unencumbered with secrets and debilitating shame.
And I hope my story will inspire you to explore what is on the other side of fear. Because through the passage of time, courage and change comes the metamorphosis of possibility beyond your wildest dreams. The ride of your life is waiting, you just have to get in drivers seat, or you’ll be left sitting passenger wondering what might have been.
