How to Celebrate Your or a Loved One's Sober Birthday

December is my soberversary month, and I’ll be 5 years alcohol free in a few weeks. I personally love tracking my sober time because it motivates me and reminds me how far I’ve come. And every year on my soberversary, I give myself a little gift. In the past, I’ve labelled a Martenelli’s Apple Cider with “Happy (X) Years Sober” and kept in the fridge in the weeks leading up to the day. One year I went out to dinner with my husband. And other years I treated myself to a massage or pedicure.
This year, I bought myself a sober chip to mark my 5 years. As someone who doesn’t attend AA, I admit I wish I had some of those cool chips bestowed on special milestones. Now, sober chips are available for anyone! A simple Amazon or Etsy search will help you find the right one for you. I found mine here — a small woman-owned business I’m happy to support.
