I wasn’t going to have a word for the new year. The practice of creating a power word or affirmation to manifest over the course of the year ahead felt stale and too conventional.
It felt like one of those things that everyone does now, and therefore no longer feels unique. Like butterfly tattoos or foam tops on cold brew.
But I was leading a writing class at Sober Mom Squad and the conversation seamlessly flowed into power words. We started with some writing exercises about what we wanted/intended in the new year, and then we looked for any words that stood out or showed up multiple times.
“Whatever word calls out to you? Or a word you come back to again and again. Maybe that’s your word for 2023,” I mused.
And naturally, two words popped out at me through my own writing that felt like the moment your camera shifts from blur to focus.
