When Coronavirus came down on the United States like a tidal wave, shutting down everything virtually overnight, book publishing was no exception. My agent told me to sit tight because no one knew what would come from it. Publishers stopped accepting inquiries, layoffs ramped up. Even paper became scarce as supply chains shut down leaving the manufacturing and distribution industries stalled. It was NOT a time to be pitching publishers.
At the same time, we saw alcohol use skyrocket, drug overdoses reached epidemic proportions. In my little Instagram world, my friend Emily Paulson put out a call for sober moms to help her create a sober community and I jumped at the chance. I started helping Sober Mom Squad grow with free weekly meetings for anyone who identified as a mother and was looking for sober virtual support during this scary, unprecedented time. (Fun fact: we still do these weekly meetings, and I host them every week! Click here to join the next one.)
